See what “The Big Take-Over” thought about “Fables”
Lochness Monster started to emerge out of hiding in 2016 when the Miami-based band self-released their first single Anchors Gone. The single caught the attention of music critics and record labels including Apocalypse Records who offered to sign the band though a deal hasn’t been reached. In January of 2017 their debut album Fables was released and was well received by critics, Pixie Cut and Anchors Gone received radio airplay as well across the U.S. Many critics mentioned their debut album having a 90’s Alternative sound similar to early Jimmy Eat World, Sunny Day Real Estate, Hum, and Smashing Pumpkins. When guitarist and songwriter Justin Shaner was asked to describe the sound of Lochness Monster he said they are just trying to connect with people and make music that’s heartfelt and that they aren’t intentionally making music that’s in a certain genre.
Michael Morello, former lead singer, directed the band’s first music video for Pixie Cut which starred Kyra Kennaugh a professional dancer who gave a whole new look and take on the very poppy but punk influenced song. The song picked up more radio airplay after the release of the music video and Pixie Cut soon became the most popular song on the album. The music video also included the new members of the band; drummer Rene Rivera and bassist Camilo Zea. The band went through several lineup changes on drums and bass prior to Rene and Camilo joining the band.
Halfway through the filming of Lochness Monster’s second music video for the song Pendulum the lead singer Michael Morello left the band to focus on other endeavors, therefore the music video was never released. After Michael’s departure the rest of the band members went on a hiatus for a few months and eventually tried out Bruce Donaldson who they decided was the right fit as the new lead singer. Bruce agreed to learn all of the songs off the album Fables and Lochness Monster set off playing as much as possible over the next couple of months while developing their live show.
After a year of working on new music, Lochness Monster hits the studio to record with James Paul Wisner (Underoath, Further Seems Forever, The Dangerous Summer) in September of 2018. James also recorded, mixed, and produced Lochness Monster’s first album. The new single titled “Calling Out” will be released in October of 2018.
